VIVA! Songs of Freedom

The connection between music and politics, particularly political expression in song, has been seen in many cultures. Protest writing predates both the recording and music industries. Oral tradition, or oral lore, is knowledge passed on through, art, ideas, and cultural material preserved and transmitted orally from one generation to another. Abolition, women’s suffrage, human rights civil rights, the anti-war movement and 1960s counterculture, the feminist movement, the sexual revolution, and environmentalism. ‘VIVA! The Freedom Songs’ contains 70 songs recorded by bands across the globe-spanning over 100 years of music history.
