The Specialized Project is a social enterprise helping young people in difficult circumstances. Producing musical products and events in support of charitable organisations. We support The Teenage Cancer Trust and other good causes. The Specialized Project supports a community of like-minded music makers at all levels. We have a dedicated team of volunteers, including musicians and music industry workers.
What we do
Our Tribute Series CD’s
Each year we release a four-disc boxset album that pays tribute to an iconic band, record label or style. Since 2012 we’ve released ten albums for our tribute series. Each year the tribute series picks a new theme and invites bands from across the globe to contribute. Past themes have included The Specials, The Beat, Madness, The Clash, Bob Marley, The Jam, Trojan Records, Two Tone Records, Glam Rock and most recently celebrated our 10th anniversary with Viva – The Freedom Songs. These albums are 4-disc CD Boxsets containing between 65 to 70 exclusive cover versions.
Original Compilations
NU SKA is a new series of albums celebrating the best original music of the world ska scene. This new album series runs alongside our tribute albums and will enable us to give more help to the charities we support. ‘Nu Ska’, are compilations of original songs by ska and rocksteady bands from around the world. We hope that these compilations will become an established series that showcases the great music from the international ska community. Specialized Records
Specialized Records started in 2016 when we helped the American band Heavensbee to release their debut album Soul Mates. It then became an online hub for bands to promote and sell pre-existing albums. This included Big Fat Panda’s ‘It’s Oot’, Kingsizes ‘Passport to Ska’ and Bluebird Parades ‘Songs from the Headland’. Specialized Records is now the outlet for our compilation albums, and we intend to develop the label further. We’ve recently started the Nu Ska series and are working with a couple of bands to release more original music in the future. Most recently we’ve release the Sonic Tonic album by Bim Skala Bim and the single Hooked on a Feeling by The Untouchables
Live Events
The Big One festival is an award-winning three day Ska & Reggae Festival held at the Sandford Holiday Park near Poole in Dorset. It takes place in November every year. We promote regional events throughout the UK as well as supporting other promoters with our events support team.
